Our Mission

At Urban Roots, we envision a thriving food system, cultivated by youth and our community, that is sustainable, equitable and just.

To realize this vision, we work with youth leaders to grow fresh food and build a community dedicated to achieving food equity.

“Be A Neighbor”

Urban Roots community members share their “why” for getting involved and working toward equitable food access for all.

Our Impact

In 2023

We stay busy planting,
growing food and
community, harvesting,
sharing, and learning with
youth, and we’re proud
and grateful for what we
accomplished together
last year.

We shared 25,987
servings of produce
through food access
efforts – 97% of the
harvest.

We paid $122,000
directly to youth for
their work growing food
and developing
leadership + food-justice
advocacy skills.

We welcomed 422
youth (grades K-12)
out to our farms for
educational tours.

80% of youth at Urban Roots reported seeing themselves as more of a leader as a result of their participation in the program.

75 youth leaders participated in our programs, including young people from 25 schools in our community.

We hosted 1,085 community volunteers, including our spring and fall cohorts of Community Ambassadors and our dedicated volunteer board of directors.
