Youth Strengthen Leadership Skills & Food Justice Understanding

Urban Roots Food and Leadership Fellows and South Austin Interns have been hard at work in their programs developing their leadership and presentation skills, learning about Urban Roots, deepening their understanding of food justice, participating in workshops, and leading volunteers on the farm. Learn more about each program below. We look forward to keeping you up-to-date on their progress in the coming months.

South Austin Internship

South Austin Internship youth have continued meeting to get to know each other and learn more about Urban Roots. Youth had the opportunity to strengthen their public speaking skills through group workshops, as well as deepen their understanding of food justice. Interns are currently training on block waking skills—that means South Austin Interns are going door-to-door in Dove Springs to meet you and talk to you about Urban Roots. Keep an eye out, and say hello if you see us!

Food & Leadership Fellowship

Urban Roots Fellows have been busy on the farm leading volunteers and getting produce shares prepared each week for our food access partners! These opportunities provide the youth the chance to further develop their leadership skills and strengthen their understanding of our hunger relief efforts. Fellows also visited a couple of our food access partners, including the Central Texas Food Bank and Farmshare Austin.
