Thank you to H-E-B!

With school back in session, summer is really drawing to a close on the farm. The past year has been unusual in many ways, and COVID-19 forced us to halt some of our in-person programs. Earlier this summer we were finally able to welcome interns back to the farm as part of our Farm Internship Program (FIP). We’re so grateful to H-E-B for their generous support of our farm interns, and also for their broader commitment to Urban Roots as sponsors of our 2021 Tour de Farm event in June.

This summer we had 18 interns and 2 Assistant Crew Leaders complete our Farm Internship Program. They worked hard harvesting more than 5,000 pounds of food, and participated in workshops to build skills in public speaking and cooking. The program also offered opportunities to expand their view of food justice. Our farm internship participants created a special community together, and we congratulate them for their awesome accomplishments this summer.

We are so grateful for continuing support from H-E-B, both as a sponsor of Tour de Farm — where we raised $131,000 this year — and for helping us kick off our youth farm programs with the Farm Internship Program. Congratulations to Audrey, Dorien, Nick, Harley, Priscilla, Oasis, Isaac, Emilio, Oliver, Jonathan, Bella, Rodolfo, Milo, Stefany, Andre, Apoorva, Lara, Ana, Melanie, and Alan who did amazing work learning about farming, community, and food systems as part of their leadership development.
