Shout out to our friends at Amplify Snack Brands who visited the Urban Roots South Austin farm earlier this month. Fellows led the group in a variety of farm activities while enjoying a beautiful day outdoors supporting our efforts to nourish the community. When asked about their time on the farm, Devon Rubenstein of Amplify Snack Brands said, “While we loved so many aspects of volunteering on the farm and working with the Urban Roots fellows, the most rewarding part for us was getting to learn from the extremely knowledgeable fellows. In our conversations, they taught us about the program, the farm, the vegetables they were growing and great recipes and tips for cooking with everything we harvested.” Not only did they learn about the farm and our programs, they also got to dig into the soil and harvest fresh produce. “It was awesome learning the correct way to harvest the different vegetables, which was a new experience for most of us, from the fellows and then getting to put their teachings right into action. Seeing everything that the team was able to harvest in one morning was so rewarding!” said Devon.

We’re always thankful when we meet like-minded partners looking to give back and support our efforts to nourish our community and grow youth leaders. “As a snack brand based in Austin, we were looking to support organizations that we felt were really making a difference locally in the area of food justice and sustainability. When we came across Urban Roots, we loved all aspects of its mission from the nourishing of the community to the youth empowerment. A couple of us were lucky enough to attend the 2021 Tour de Farm and we were blown away by the stories from the fellows and the impact Urban Roots has had on their lives, careers and communities. This is our first year supporting Urban Roots and we look forward to many more years of partnership!,” shared Devon.
