Grow young leaders. Give to Urban Roots programs.

Urban Roots supports the well-being of young people every day on the farm. When we support well-being, we make sure that everyone can reach their potential and fully contribute to our community. Maximizing potential helps our community to thrive and remain vibrant.

Urban Roots builds young leaders.

Maya Guevara is a leader and Urban Roots alumnus. Maya joined the Farm Internship Program in high school to learn skills to succeed in college, career, and life. Nurturing skills of self-efficacy, self-management, and social awareness helped Maya grow as a young woman.

My internship was transformational for me. It taught me how to use my voice in a way that I hadn’t before. We were intentionally creating community. We have agreements how to treat each other, how we act toward each other, and accountability toward each other. It felt safer to speak up, or even be more casual with people.

I was able to lean into that. The more that I was able to do that…all those things…telling my stories and being in a community with people made me more confident,” Maya said.

Urban Roots guides youth toward making positive contributions and playing fulfilling roles in the community.

Our community needs healthy, hard-working, well- rounded young people who will be able to give back and sustain the future of our city. Urban Roots grows leaders whose development is about making and keeping commitments, taking on and showing responsibility with others.

Reflecting on her experience at Urban Roots, Maya said, “It’s an embodied experience where you are working hard and you are connected literally to the ground. It’s really grounding, and being grounded impacts the community you are able to build.

With your help, we can make sure young people in our city reach their potential, and have the opportunity to contribute to a healthy community.

Please support the work of Urban Roots. We need your help to raise $50,000 by the end of the year to fund our summer 2020 paid internships for high school students. Donating today means you give a student the tools to build well-being for our entire community.

From the entire Urban Roots team, we wish you and your family happy holidays!

Sincerely,

Max Elliott, LMSW, Executive Director

P.S. — Donations of any size contribute to leadership programs that make a difference in our community. Donate today!
