This summer’s Community Lunch Series is a set of three delicious, summertime meals on the Urban Roots Farm. At each lunch, a group of Urban Roots Youth Farm Interns teams up with a different local chef in the Austin area to prepare and share a seasonal, multi-course meal with the Austin community. Each meal incorporates fresh produce, grown and harvested from the Urban Roots Farm. After a morning spent cooking in a commercial kitchen, the chef and youth serve their meal at the Urban Roots farm to members of the community.
Community Lunches provide an opportunity for
Urban Roots youth to share in the abundance of their harvest!
These exciting community gatherings take place on three Friday afternoons in June. All Community Lunches begin at 11:30am and end at 1:00pm and take place on the Urban Roots Farm. To get to the farm, please follow our driving directions rather than using an electronic mapping service.
All are welcome to attend, but we have limited seating and YOU MUST REGISTER to reserve your place at the table. Limit of one lunch registration per guest, and limit of 4 guests per group. Suggested Donation of $20.
Jack played an integral part in getting the first Community Lunch Series off the ground, and we are so happy to continue our partnership. Jack Allen’s Kitchen features refined Southern-inspired flavors, crossed with the spice of southwestern cuisine that come together to create plates that will invigorate any palate and comfort the soul. The bounty yielded from each season and the dedication of every farmer and purveyor Jack comes in contact with, serves as his daily inspiration and reveals the rich history and evolution of Texan cuisine. We welcome back Rene for his fifth Community Lunch with Urban Roots! Rene has a special connection with Urban Roots youth and goes out of his way to create an educational, ridiculously fun experience. And let’s not forget that the food is always delicious! La Condesa is an award-winning modern Mexican restaurant and was nominated for a James Beard Foundation Award for ‘Best New Restaurant.’ Register Now!
Jam has been a generous supporter of Urban Roots through the years. You may have seen her selling amazing Thai food at the SFC Downtown Farmers Market or you may have heard about the Thai cooking classes she leads at her restaurant. She also recently released The Everything Thai Cookbook, and we can’t wait to try out a few recipes. We are thrilled to bring Jam back as a Guest Chef for a 2013 Community Lunch. Register Now!
