Sunday, March 1st, 2015 will be the Austin CROP Hunger Walk. CROP stands for Communities Responding to Overcome Poverty. CROP Hunger Walks are community-wide events sponsored by Church World Service an international relief, development, and refugee resettlement agency. Money raised by CROP Hunger Walks nationwide is used by CWS to provide food, medical care, disaster relief, and self-help development for needy people locally and throughout the world. On October 17, 1969, a thousand people in Bismarck, ND participated in what may have been the start of the hunger walk for CROP. It raised $25,000 to help stop hunger. Currently, over 2,000 communities across the United States participate in more than 1,600 CROP Hunger Walks each year. Austin has been participating every year since 1979.
25% of the money raised in the CROP Hunger Walk goes to local hunger alleviating agencies in Austin. Urban Roots is a beneficiary for the 2015 Austin CROP Hunger Walk!
