A Message About Urban Roots’ Response to COVID-19

An Important Update from Urban Roots

Dear Friends,

I am reaching out today to update you on the precautions Urban Roots is taking to keep our staff, young leaders, volunteers, and supporters safe during this time. We are taking COVID-19 seriously and monitoring the situation with recommendations from health professionals and government officials. In addition to all administrative staff working remotely, we are doing the following:

– We are suspending all youth programs for the next two weeks while we review options for adjusted programming. As you know, we provide paid stipends for all youth participants and we will continue to pay their stipends during this time. Meanwhile, our board and staff will continue to keep the farm thriving. We are excited for an abundant spring harvest and sharing it with the community.

-All current educational farm tours and scheduled farm volunteer dates will be cancelled until further notice.

-The City of Austin has banned all events with more than 250 people through at least May 1, and we are postponing our primary fundraiser – Tour de Farm, originally set for April 26th.

Urban Roots leadership will continue to monitor the situation closely and will keep you posted. Please be safe and follow guidelines from health authorities and take good care of yourself.

If you have any questions or comments, please don’t hesitate to contact me or anyone on the Urban Roots team.

Sincerely,
Max
Max Elliott /Executive Director/Urban Roots

P.S. As we support the larger community with self-isolation, please consider ways you can provide social solidarity. For example, please help spread the word about these important community resources. Following school closures, AISD is offering curbside meals to students 19 and under. Visit the AISD website for developments.
