Cooking 101 – A field trip to the Sustainable Food Center
A few weeks ago, half of our youth interns attended a cooking class at The Sustainable Food Center. Each youth received a copy of the recipes they would be using during the class, and information on healthy food choices. The room was ready to go once we arrived with each youth having their own work area with knives and and apron. They learned the basics in how to use a knife properly and safely, and practiced their new skills on veggies from the farm. They then learned how to cook two different dishes; salmon patties and healthy chinese wraps. Both of the dishes contained vegetables they had helped to grow on the farm and they were able to try both food items! It was really great to see our youth learning new skills while enjoying the delicious produce they had helped to grow!
